A hands-on day learning to colour fabric with local plants — indigo, turmeric, pomegranate rind, madder. No chemicals. No synthetic shortcuts.

Natural Dyeing: Full-Day Immersive Workshop

What you'll learn

A full-day immersive workshop in the art of natural dyeing. You'll work with plant-based dye sources — indigo, turmeric, madder root, pomegranate rind, and iron mordant — to create rich, lasting colour without synthetic chemicals.

The plants we use have been colouring cloth for thousands of years. This workshop is about recovering that knowledge and making it practical again.

Who it's for

Anyone curious about the relationship between plants, colour, and cloth. No prior textile or dyeing experience needed — just bring your hands and your curiosity.

What to expect

  • Morning: The science of natural dye — how mordants work, why some colours last and others fade, and how different fibres take colour differently
  • Afternoon: Hands-on dyeing with three plant sources of your choice
  • You'll leave with 2–3 dyed fabric samples and the knowledge to continue at home

What to bring

Bring an old cotton or silk garment you'd like to dye. We'll provide aprons, gloves, dye vats, and all plant materials.

Natural fibres work best — cotton, linen, silk, or wool. Synthetics won't take the dye.

Pricing

Pricing to be announced. Early interest registrations will receive priority access and a discounted rate.
